Urban ForestKgs. Nytorv Metro

The Reframing Initiative

Our experience piece, Urban Forest, rethinks the modern urban environment as a frame. Through light-, sound- and 30 meters tall video projections we transformed Copenhagen metro station’s cold and hectic atmosphere into an organic and calm space.

An essential part of the Urban Forest project was an exploration of the network thought. Thus, we enrolled 30 partners and sponsors: The Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen Municipal, Cowi, Copenhagen Metro, Philips, Panasonic, Sophus Foundation, Danske Spil, Dong Energy and Wonderful Copenhagen etc. In total 350 people – engineers, hardware experts etc. – con amore helped us, create the experience piece.

Urban Forest had an estimated value of 14 million DKK (1,5 million GBP) and was visited by 1,1 million citizens. Mayor of Culture Pia Allerselv opened Urban Forest in August 2010 and The Danish Royal Ballet performed an exclusive ballet in the experience piece.

With takeoff in thoughts about postmodern humans disconnection with nature our first intention was to create an underground urban forest – accordingly the name Urban Forest. However, as we developed the project it became clear to us, that as postmodern humans it was our inner landscape that needed attention and transformation.

Snyd ikke dig selv for en ganske unik oplevelse.

Et af de interessante perspektiver ved Urban Forest var, at det trak kunsten ud i det offentlige rum.
